Unlocking the Power of Reading to Enhance Your Speaking Skills

In my childhood, creativity was a cherished companion, fostered by long afternoons spent outdoors. Television offered merely three channels, all in black and white, which nudged us toward more imaginative pursuits. When indoors, reading became my sanctuary. Even today, I find myself reaching for a book over a film adaptation. Why? Because while technology can create stunning visuals, it can't replicate the vivid imagination that blossoms when I dive into a well-crafted narrative. When a book describes a seaside scene, I not only see the waves and clouds, but I also hear the roar of the ocean and smell the tang of salt in the air. In reading, my characters breathe and the world brims with life.

The Impact of Reading on Storytelling Skills

Reading has deeply influenced my appreciation for storytelling—a skill I constantly adapt and weave into my sermons and messages. By observing how authors craft their tales, I learn to structure my narratives more effectively. My reading list spans various genres: from non-fiction and biographies to espionage and mystery fiction, a nod to my pre-ministry days. This not only broadens my perspective but also enriches my vocabulary, encouraging me to explore new words and their meanings, often with a dictionary in hand.

Personal and Professional Growth Through Books

On average, I consume about four books a month, each one contributing to my personal and professional growth. Among them, the Bible holds a special place. It is a literary treasure trove filled with diverse forms, rich history, and profound human interactions. When reading the words of Jesus, I find myself inspired not only spiritually but also in my mission to convey these perspectives to my congregation.
